National Institute of Genetics (NIG)/ Genetics Program, SOKENDAI offers a research internship program for undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to gain research experience in genetics and related fields in life sciences. Interns will conduct independent research under the mentorship of a host investigator at NIG.

Internship in Japan for International Students 2024
Participants will receive training in scientific research methods, communication skills, and engage in lab visits to interact with principal investigators. The program concludes with the “NIG-INTERN Reports Symposium,” where interns present their research findings. Successful participants will receive a completion certificate from NIG.
In addition to research work, interns can attend graduate-level lectures, journal clubs, and seminars led by distinguished researchers from within and outside NIG.

Who Can Apply for NIG Internship 2025?
Applicants must have a strong interest in life sciences. Must be in the prefinal year of their academic program at the time of application, specifically:
Eligibility Criteria of NIG Internship
- 3rd year of a 4-year bachelor’s program.
- 2nd year of a 3-year bachelor’s program.
- 4th year of a 5-year integrated program.
- 1st year of a 2-year master’s program.
- 5th year of a 6-year program.
Students interested in pursuing a PhD at NIG are especially encouraged to apply. Application Restrictions: Applications from non-prefinal students or students already enrolled in a PhD program will not be considered.
