Who can Apply?
- Undergraduates from predominantly undergraduate institutions (PUIs) and community colleges in the United States and Canada.
- Students from universities outside of the U15.
- Those that have little or no experience with research.
- Goal is to establish a path for students to pursue postgraduate studies and professions in neuroscience.
- Developing diversity, equal access, and opportunities in the biomedical sciences, especially neuroscience, is the main focus.
Key Components of the Program:
- Mentored Research:
- Students will work on supervised, hypothesis-driven projects in neuroscience labs.
- Mentors (faculty, graduate students, or postdocs) will provide:
- One-on-one training in lab techniques and experimental design.
- Regular progress reviews and troubleshooting support.
- Guidance on interpreting scientific literature.
- Students will present their findings through oral or poster presentations at the program’s conclusion.
2. Professional Development:
- Programs must offer workshops to build skills and navigate academic and career paths.
- Examples include:
- Introduction to Biomedical Research: Basics of neuroscience, lab techniques, and ethics.
- Personal and Professional Identity: Strategies for minority students to thrive in science.
