Vienna BioCenter Summer School

The Vienna BioCenter Summer School offers approximately 20 undergraduate students an exceptional opportunity to collaborate with top researchers in a dynamic, cutting-edge scientific environment. This program is designed to attract talented students from around the globe and foster a vibrant and diverse community. It serves as ideal preparation for those considering graduate studies in the life sciences. Successful applicants will obtain accommodation, a travel allowance, and a stipend for the duration of the program.

The summer school begins on the last Friday of June 2025 and concludes on the last Friday of August (or August 31) 2025 each year.

Eligibility of Summer School 2025

  • Open to all international students pursuing a BA Hons, Master’s, or MSc degree.
  • Applicants must have completed at least two years of university study in a Life Sciences-related field.
  • No application fee is required.

Vienna BioCenter Scholarship summer schools involves:

Research Project

  • Each fellow is paired with a faculty mentor and assigned a research project in areas such as molecular biology, neuroscience, immunology, bioinformatics, RNA biology, stem cells, or biochemistry. 
  • Scholars engage in experiments, data analysis, idea generation, and result discussions, supported by lab members. 
  • Participation in lab meetings and journal clubs is also included.

Series of Lectures

Weekly lectures by faculty members cover current trends in various research fields. Lectures rotate across participating institutes, encouraging lively discussions. 

Scientific Symposium

  • The program concludes with a symposium where scholars present their research findings. Prizes are awarded for the best presentations.

The application for the Vienna Bio Center (VBC) Summer School applies the following steps: 

  1. Initial Registration: Please provide personal details, including your name, email, Skype username (optional), gender, date of birth, nationality, and place of birth. Provide your address details and confirm if this will be your address during the summer school. 
  2. Eligibility Check: Indicate the field you are currently studying and your degree program. Confirm whether you have more than three months of research or laboratory experience. 
  3. Consent and Data Protection: Review the GDPR-compliant data protection statement, which outlines how your data will be stored, used, and anonymized after the selection process. Provide consent for your data to be processed and, optionally, receive updates about future open calls. 
  4. Final Submission: Affirm that the provided information is accurate and complete. Misleading or false data may result in revocation of admission. 
  5. Submit the application to be considered for admission to the VBC Summer School. 

Once the initial steps are complete, eligible candidates will receive an email with instructions for uploading additional personal information.
